The Summerland boys' basketball team faced its first setback of the season on Jan. 21, falling to Boone Central in a tightly contested 58-54 game in Albion.
The Bobcats delivered a balanced performance but couldn't overcome the Cardinals in the final minutes.
Coach Brett Kaczor said, "We just didn't make enough winning plays in the end. We had a couple opportunities to extend a lead and didn't execute well enough."
Summerland shot 28% from three-point range, connecting on five of 18 attempts. At the free-throw line, the team was efficient, hitting 68%. Inside the arc, the Bobcats converted 45% of their two-point shots, going 13-for-29.
Michael Koenig led the offensive charge with 18 points. Preston Hoke added 13 to the tally. On the boards, Carter Bergman pulled down eight rebounds, while Sam Cheatum grabbed seven.
Summerland held a narrow lead at halftime, outscoring Boone Central 30-29 in the first half. The Cardinals surged ahead after the break, edging the Bobcats 29-24 in the final two quarters to secure the win.
