Bobcats back on track after win over Pierce

The Summerland Bobcats boys basketball team secured a decisive 47-32 victory over Class C1 Pierce in a home matchup on Jan. 23. A strong second-quarter performance propelled the Bobcats to their 14th win of the season.

Leading by seven after the first quarter, Summerland unleashed a 20-point offensive surge in the second, entering halftime with a commanding 27-11 lead.

Coach Brett Kaczor said his squad responded well early against Pierce, but he expects more from the team.

"We didn't put a full four quarters together. We utilized Friday to work out some kinks to be ready for another tough week ahead," the coach added.

The Bobcats displayed balanced scoring and solid shooting, hitting 13 of 22 from two-point range and four of 11 from beyond the arc. From the free-throw line, they connected on nine of 18 attempts.

Michael Koenig led the offensive charge with 12 points, adding two assists and two steals. Preston Hoke contributed a well-rounded effort with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Other contributors included Sam Cheatum with nine points, three assists, and one steal, and Parker Napier with seven points, two rebounds, and two assists. AJ Hobbs chipped in three points, three rebounds, and a block, while Alec Schindler, Carter Bergman, and Ryan Rifer combined for six points and key defensive plays.

The victory bolsters the Bobcats' record to 14-1.
