Lady Bobcats finish fourth at home invite

The Summerland Lady Bobcats hosted their annual invite on Monday, January 13, where 27 teams competed in an exciting day of action. The Lady Bobcats performed admirably, securing a fourth-place team finish with 107 points. West Holt claimed the championship title, tallying 129 points, while South Sioux City took second with 124 points, and Wayne rounded out the top three with 120 points.

Individually, several Lady Bobcats shone on the mat.

At 110 pounds, Ava Cleveland had an impressive run, finishing second overall and contributing 22 points to the team total. Cleveland won her first three matches by fall, defeating Rachel Chavez of South Sioux City in 1:43, Avery Bruha of Ord in 3:56, and Leah Pistulka of West Holt in 3:18. In the championship match, she fell to Evelyn Freeman of Cedar Catholic in 3:12.

In the 120-pound division, Abbey Chipps also placed second, adding another 22 points to Summerland's score. Chipps dominated her early rounds, pinning Yailin Reynoso of South Sioux City in 1:06, Ruby Spann of Boone Central in 40 seconds, and Caydence Liester of Elkhorn Valley in 3:09. She ultimately fell in the final to Leynn Luna of Boone Central in 1:23.

Competing at 125 pounds, Gracie Mudloff earned six points for the Lady Bobcats. After receiving a bye in the first round, Mudloff lost to Felycia Kerkman of West Holt but bounced back with victories over Dayana Arellano of South Sioux City and Chloe Kokes of Ord, both by fall. Mudloff's run ended in the consolation semifinal, where she lost by decision to Josslyn Hoefer of Neligh-Oakdale, 7-0.

Abby Arroyo, wrestling at 130 pounds, had a tough day, finishing without any team points. After a first-round loss to Peyton Thelen of Randolph, Arroyo received a bye in the consolation round but was later defeated by Binzley Walz of Axtell.

At 140 pounds, Kaylee Thiele delivered a standout performance, finishing first and scoring 22 points. Thiele earned a bye in the quarterfinal, then pinned Mabel Ngebeh of Randolph in 1:03 during the semifinal. In the championship match, she secured the title with a fall over Ivette Ozuna of Wayne in 1:45.

Jadyn Hobbs competed at 145 pounds but did not score any points. Despite receiving byes in two rounds, Hobbs fell to Morgan Schaaf of West Holt in the quarterfinal and Ngan Le of South Sioux City in the consolation round.

Charlee Wagner, competing in the 155-pound bracket, placed fourth and contributed 13 points. Wagner began with a bye and lost her quarterfinal match to Lysandra Torres of South Sioux City. She rebounded with back-to-back wins by fall over Jazmynn Scott of Wakefield and Jenahcie Zautke of Madison. In the consolation semifinal, Wagner advanced by medical forfeit but fell to Grace Longsdorf of Neligh-Oakdale in the third-place match.

In the 190-pound division, both Kyah Bruhn and Jaelyn Shaver competed but did not place. Bruhn received byes in two rounds but lost matches to Libby Evans of Elgin Public/Pope John and teammate Jaelyn Shaver. Shaver, who also earned six points, won two matches by fall, defeating Addyson Jacob of Neligh-Oakdale and Bruhn before losing in the consolation semifinal by medical forfeit to Kennedy Blevins of Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

Raina Krebs closed out the day for the Lady Bobcats with a strong second-place finish in the 235-pound bracket, scoring 16 points. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinal, Krebs pinned Caitlyn Sohm of South Sioux City in 1:33 during the semifinal. In the championship match, she fell to Precious DeCora of Winnebago in 1:39.
