The Summerland Bobcats held off a late surge from the Plainview Pirates on Jan. 7, securing a 52-48 victory on the Pirates' home court. Despite a fourth-quarter rally by Plainview, Summerland's steady play throughout the game ensured the Bobcats remained unbeaten this season.
By the end of the first half, Summerland led 30-24, thanks to a strong 19-point opening quarter. A defensive battle followed in the third, with the Bobcats outscoring the Pirates 9-7. However, Plainview found rhythm in the final period, putting up 17 points and closing the gap before Summerland sealed the win with timely baskets.
Preston Hoke led the Bobcats in scoring with 13 points, adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals, despite committing five turnovers.
Michael Koenig added eight points and four rebounds, while Alec Schindler contributed a seven points and 10 rebounds. Carter Bergman matched Schindler on the boards with 10 rebounds of his own. Sam Cheatum provided balance on both ends with nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Head coach Brett Kaczor praised his team's resilience, saying, "We had two really tough battles last week. It was a great learning week as we were able to see what we still need to work on and deal with some late-game pressure."
