O'Neill overwhelms Lady Cats

The Summerland Lady Bobcats endured a tough night on the hardwood, falling 67-31 to the O'Neill Eagles in a road game on Thursday, Dec. 19. The loss marked the Lady Bobcats' fifth defeat of the season, dropping their overall record to 2-5.

From the opening tip-off, O'Neill established dominance, outscoring Summerland 17-12 in the first quarter. The Lady Bobcats showed promise early on, staying within striking distance with a 12-point effort. However, the Eagles' defensive pressure and offensive efficiency proved too much for Summerland to handle as the game progressed.

The second quarter saw O'Neill extend their lead with another 17-point performance, while Summerland struggled to find their rhythm offensively, managing only four points in the frame. Heading into halftime, the Eagles held a commanding 34-16 advantage.

Despite a more competitive showing in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 12 points, the Lady Bobcats were unable to chip away at O'Neill's lead. The Eagles closed out the game in dominant fashion, outscoring Summerland 15-9 in the final quarter.

Final quarter tallies underscored O'Neill's balanced attack, as they outscored Summerland in three of the four quarters.

Statistics from the game were not available at press time.

The Lady Bobcats will look to regroup and refocus as they prepare for their next matchup, aiming to break their current skid and regain momentum heading into the heart of the season.

They will face Winside, at 6 p.m., Friday, at the Summerland Holiday Tourney.
