The Summerland Lady Bobcats hosted Norfolk Catholic on Dec. 10 in a hard-fought basketball matchup, ultimately falling 52-36 despite a strong team effort.
The game started with promise for Summerland, as they edged Norfolk Catholic 15-13 in the first quarter. The Lady Bobcats showcased their offensive potential early, led by a determined effort on both ends of the floor. However, Norfolk Catholic found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Bobcats 21-9 to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Summerland struggled to regain momentum, managing just four points in the third quarter. Norfolk Catholic extended their lead during this stretch, capitalizing on turnovers and second-chance opportunities. The Lady Bobcats showed resilience in the final period, outscoring Norfolk Catholic 8-5, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Coach Jackson Medina said, "At times we look like a very well-rounded team with a high ceiling. Other times we tend to struggle in key areas of the game. We are working hard and improving daily."
Jenna Funk led the charge for Summerland with an impressive all-around performance, recording 10 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Lydia Robertson added 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals, showcasing her defensive tenacity. Kanyon Allemang contributed nine points, five rebounds, and three assists but also faced pressure from Norfolk Catholic's defense, committing seven turnovers.
Caydence Schumacher chipped in six points and two rebounds before exiting the game due to injury, while Belle Anson displayed her versatility with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Bailey Ahlers and Jaycee Reynnolds each grabbed three rebounds, supporting the Lady Bobcats' efforts on the boards.
