Summerland wrestlers earned two medals at Friday's Southern Valley Invite in Oxford.
Ethan Kester claimed the 150-class title. He picked up wins over Asa Popp, Atwood-Rawlins County, in 4:12, and Tyson Freeman, Loomis, in :27. That set up a first-place match against Cauy Twohig, Wilcox-Hildreth. Kester secured the pin in 5:55.
In the 132 class, Isaac Mendoza finished fourth. He started with a 17-1 win by tech fall over Thomas Magorian, Arapahoe before dropping a 13-3 major decision to Carter Horner, Loomis. In the consolation semifinal, Mendoza won 7-0 over Damon Spady, Chase County. In the match for third, Cohen Lewis, Red Cloud/Blue Hill, pinned Mendoza in 4:04.
Other wrestlers competing for the Bobcats included:
Lane Sanne, who wrestled at 113. He dropped the quarterfinal to Nathan Gonzales, Sedgwick County/Fleming, in 1:57 and was eliminated in the consolation semifinal, when Dylan Wendell, Bertrand, pinned the Bobcat freshman in 1:41.
Liam Cleveland competed in the 120 class. He lost by fall, in 3:14, to Scotty Anderson, Sutherland, in the quarterfinal. Cleveland lost by an 11-2 major decision to Brendan Booe, Loomis, in the first consolation round.
Ayden Bazelman finished 1-2 in the 126-pound class. After losing by fall, in 2:25, to Cooper Quinn, Alma, Bazleman pinned Arapahoe's Drew Hermes in 3:32. In the second consolation round, Kale Martinez, Sutherland, pinned Bazelman in :39.
Luke Kester also competed in the 126 division. He lost by tech fall, 18-3, to Kyler Masters, Wilcox-Hildreth. Kester rebounded with an 11-9 win over Jesse Hazen, Medicine Valley. In the second consolation round, Thomas Ord, RC/BH, picked up a :36 pin, eliminating Kester.
Austin Mendoza went 3-2 in the 144 class. He opened with a pin in 1:13, over Hunter Koetter, MV. In the quarterfinal, Briggs Hill of Arapahoe squeezed past Mendoza, 2-1. In the second consolation round, Mendoza pinned Otto Turner, RC/BH, in 1:38 and defeated Eli Pistulka, W-H, 11-4. In the consolation semifinal, Calvin Carraher, Franklin, pinned Mendoza in 3:29.
Jason Shaver met Walter Kenny, of Loomis, in the first round of the 215-pound class. Kenney pinned Shaver in 1:30. In the consolation second round, Shaver pinned Karson Hubl, Hitchcock County, in 4:15, and lost by fall, to Daylan Fairchild, Atwood-Rawlins County, in 3:29.
Jacob Schlecht also competed in the 215 class. He was pinned in :51 by Trey Downey in the first round and was eliminated when Fairchild, A-RCH, pinned him in :16.
