Summerland Public School Board of Education met in regular session, Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m.

President Steven Thiele called the meeting, which was advertised in the Dec. 4, 2024, newspapers, to order at 7 p.m. Pres. Thiele noted the Open Meetings Act posted in the boardroom.

Roll call was taken, with all board members present: Ed Nordby, Nate Schwager, Scott Thiele, Steven Thiele, Austin Twibell and Jeremy Wagner.

Motion by Wagner, seconded by Twibell, to approve the agenda as presented. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Public participation (15 minutes allowed). There was no public participation.

Motion by Nordby, seconded by Scott Thiele, to approve the consent agenda. Unless removed from the consent agenda, items identified within the consent agenda will be acted on at one time, including minutes of the Nov. 13, 2024, meeting and monthly financial report. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Old business:

Discuss, consider and take action on proposal from NASB on assisting with strategic planning. Motion by Twibell, seconded by Schwager, to approve the proposal from Nebraska Association of School Boards for assistance with strategic planning. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

New business:

Discuss, consider and take action on superintendent’s contract. Motion by Wagner, seconded by Scott Thiele, to approve a two-year contract to Superintendent Molly Aschoff as presented. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Discuss, consider and take action on the 2025-2026 certificated staff negotiated agreement. Motion by Schwager, seconded by Twibell, to approve the 2025-2026 teacher negotiated agreement as presented. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Discuss, consider and take action on staffing. Motion by Steven Thiele, seconded by Nate Schwager, to approve the resignation of Vernon Parker as custodian. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Motion by Steven Thiele, seconded by Scott Thiele, to approve a work agreement for Jessica Shaver as a paraprofessional. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Motion by Steven Thiele, seconded by Scott Thiele, to approve a work agreement for Christine Thoendel as a custodian. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

Discuss, consider and take action on the Early Retirement Incentive Program. Motion by Schwager, seconded by Steven Thiele, to approve up to four applications for the Early Retirement Incentive Program for the 2024-2025 school year. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner.

NASB update. Supt. Aschoff reported that new board members Ryan Ahlers and Chelsi McLain accompanied her to the new board member workshop in Norfolk. They reported that it was well worth it. Aschoff has also attended the State School Board Conference in Omaha and reported on some information from that.

Administrative reports:

Elementary principal Cathy Cooper: MTSS, Curriculum, Christmas concert.

JH/HS principal Jacob Birch: End of first semester, football updtae, cell phone usage, Christmas concert, fall activity wrap up, winter activities.

Supt. Molly Aschoff: NCSA Legislative preview, early retirement incentive, math interviews, committees, EOP update, ALICAP NE Advantage article, moving meeting site around three communities.

Supt. Aschoff recognized Steven Thiele and Ed Nordby as outgoing board members. She thanked them for their service and presented each with a commemorative clock.

The next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at 7 p.m.

President Thiele adjourned the meeting at 7:57 p.m.
