The Summerland boys' basketball team opened its 2024-25 campaign with two dominant wins.
On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Bobcats hosted Neligh-Oakdale and squelched the Warriors, 71-13.
Summerland scored 31 first-quarter points and never looked back.
Preston Hoke led the team with a dozen points. Ryan Rifer added 10. Preston Watson reeled in six rebounds.
On Saturday, the Bobcats visited Wildcat territory in Hartington and exited with a 64-35 victory over Hartington-Newcastle.
Michael Koenig scored 14 points and Parker Napier pumped in 11 en route to the win. Carter Bergman finished with six rebounds.
Coach Brett Kaczor said his team got off to fast starts in both games, allowing younger team members "some quality varsity minutes."
"Offensively, we were able to really push the pace, but we struggled with some careless turnovers that we will have to clean up for this week. Defensively, we got a lot of deflections and played aggressively. Moving forward we have to work harder on taking care of offensive boards as a collective group."
Kaczor and crew were slated to meet Norfolk Catholic, at home, Tuesday.
"We've got a big one Tuesday night against Norfolk Catholic. It's an early C2 Top 5 matchup between two really strong teams. Pace of the game will be a huge factor. This will be a good early gauge for us to see how we compete against a bigger and just as athletic team as us," Kaczor said.
