District 4 Leadership Development Events competition was held at Summerland Public School, Nov. 20.
Thirty Summerland FFA members competed in events, which determined who will advance to the state convention. At the end of competition, one individual and two groups were crowned district champions.
Sara Hemenway won discovery speaking and advances to state.
Conduct of Chapter team one topped the field and will compete at the spring convention. Team members include Braelyn Bergman, Kanyon Allemang, Jaelyn Shaver, Taelyn Nilson, Asher Whiting, Damien Hupp and Ryder Hemenway.
Shaylie Kester, Jenna Funk, Breckyn Bergman, Carter Bergman, Bennet Flenniken and Ethan Kester finished first in Parliamentary Produce, advancing to state.
Braelyn Bergman was named district runner-up in creed speaking and qualified for state.
In cooperative speaking Jenna Funk earned the district runner-up title and advances to state.
Summerland's second parliamentary procedure squad, comprise of Savannah Gallagher, Cassie Livingston, Charlee Wagner, Sierra Thomson, Katelyn Kester and Kyah Bruhn, finished second and will compete in the state meet.
Carlee Livingston placed third in senior public speaking. She qualified for state competition.
Gavin Whiting received a purple ribbon in employment skills and is first alternate to state.
Team two for CCM - Hemenway, Claire Kester, Bella Kester, Ellie Heiss, Ruby Ahlers, Lilly Kester and Cohen Schindler - finished fourth and will be the first alternates for state.
Clair Krysl received a purple ribbon in extemporaneous speaking.
Raina Krebs received a blue ribbon in senior public speaking.
Advisor Jacob Goldfuss said students represented the chapter and school well.
"Public speaking is not easy, it takes a lot of courage to get in front of judges and present a speech or demonstration. It also takes preparation and practice which these members all put in," Goldfuss said.
