Damage reported in two-vehicle accident in Holt County

Holt County Sheriff's Office personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision, north of Atkinson, on Nov. 15.

At approximately 4 a.m., a 2013 Freightliner, driven by Derek Hollenbeck, was northbound on Highway 11. As he approached 881 Road and attempted to turn westbound onto 881 Road, he hit the front end of a trailer on a 2013 Volvo semitruck, driven by Danaila Mugurel.

Mugurel was attempting to pass Hollenbeck in the intersection as Hollenbeck attempted to complete the turn.

Due to the impact, the Volvo overturned on the driver's side and slide, before coming to rest in the west ditch.

Hollenbeck maintained control of the Freightliner, keeping it on the roadway.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.

One driver was transported to West Holt Hospital, in Atkinson, by Atkinson Fire and Rescue personnel.
