Hand counting still underway for Summerland school board race

A week after the Nov. 5 General Election ended, it's still unclear which write-in candidates will fill vacancies on the Summerland Public School Board of Education.

What is known at this time is that Nate Schwager, the only candidate listed on the ballot, unofficially received 487 votes in Antelope County, 345 in Holt County, 13 in Knox County and 12 in Wheeler County.

Antelope County Clerk Lisa Payne said she hoped results would be available the afternoon of Nov. 12. As of press time, the canvassing board had not finished hand counting ballots.

The Wheeler County Clerk's office confirmed that two write-ins received votes. Chelsi McLain received seven votes and Hailey Schlecht, 2.

Official results from the Holt County Clerk's office show McLain received 140 votes; Ryan Ahlers, 71; Schlecht, 55; and Seth Snodgrass, 8.

In Knox County, McLain received three votes; Snodgrass, two; and Schlecht, one.

Once hand counting finishes in Antelope County and results from all four counties are tallied and finalized, SAM will post results on its website and social media channels.
