Bobcats v Bobcats

Summerland manhandles Falcons in opening round of football playoffs

Summerland scored 24 first-quarter points en route to a 45-8 win over Elkhorn Valley in the first round of the Class D1 state football playoffs.

The game, played at Summerland on Oct. 24, sets up a second-round game for the Bobcats. A 6 p.m. kickoff is scheduled for Nov. 1, when the South Loup Bobcats travel to the local Bobcat territory.

Bobcat skipper Tom Thramer said the visiting Bobcats - a cooperative comprised of Arnold and Callaway Public schools - run a variety of defensive fronts that try to confuse blocking schemes.

"Our communication up front is going to have to be on point to pick up any differences they throw at us."

Thramer believes his team should be able to utilize its passing game, if the weather cooperates.

"Right now, the weather doesn't look super great for throwing the ball on Friday," he added.

South Loup's offense is best described as "ground and pound," according to Thramer.

"We will have to strap up and get ready for a four-quarter slugfest with them."

Thramer hopes some of his squad members who have been sidelined from injuries are able to return to the field.

"Hopefully we get some guys back this week so our depth can help us through hopefully a long playoff run."
