Road projects on Antelope County's one- and six-year plan were discussed and approved Oct. 1 during a county commissioners' meeting in Neligh.
Nine road improvement projects were approved by Antelope County Commissioners, Oct. 1, following the one- and six-year road plan hearing.
Highway Superintendent Brian McDonald said essentially the plan includes any new construction.
Priority projects include two bridge replacements along the Antelope/Knox county border.
Project C-2 404 includes removal and bridge replacement. Both counties will contribute $155,000 toward the project. It is located along 870 Road, between 518 and 519 avenues.
Commissioner Neil Williby asked if the project was starting soon. McDonald said he believed it would be completed this fall.
"The whole thing with a bridge like that, it was never used for harvest anyway. It's not like it's going to hinder harvest," said chairman Charlie Henery.
The second bridge removal project, C-2 425, will total $600,000. Antelope and Knox counties will each pay $203,226 toward the project. County Bridge Match Program funds, in the amount of $193,548, will pay for the remainder of the project. The project is also located on 870 road, near the intersection of 523 Avenue.
Another bridge project may qualify for assistance through the CBMP.
"C-2(392) is eligible," McDonald said, adding that this project may not be funded since the county currently has two projects using funds from that specific project.
Other projects on the one-year plan include:
• C-2 (430): Remove and replace bridge No. 16610 on 838 Road, west of 525 Avenue. Estimated cost is $100,000.
• C-2 (433): Remove and replace bridge No. 11205 with a box culvert on 865 Road, one mile east of 517 avenue. Estimated cost is $143,548 from the county and CBMP funds totaling $106,452.
• C-2 (395): Regrade intersection of 534 Road and 848 Avenue. Remove and replace asphalt on 534 Avenue in Elm Township. Estimated cost is $30,000.
• C-2 (392): Remove and replace bridge No. 06005P, between sections 31/32, T24N, R6W, in Oakdale Township. Estimated cost is $200,000.
• C-2 (428): 3R to widen 513 Avenue between Highway 275 and Highway 20. Estimated cost is $1,700,000.
• C-2 (429): 3R to widen 857 Road between 510 and 513 Avenues. Estimated cost is $550,000.
• C-2 (426): Remove and replace non-bridge size structure with CMP. Located in Cedar Township, the land is between Sec. 16/17, T23N, R6W. Estimated cost is $150,000.
Ten projects are included on the six-year plan, including:
• C-2 (420), 2025-26: Construct new pavement on 516 Road between Bridge No. 21315 and 854 Ave, between Frenchtown and Blain townships. Estimated cost is $1,875,000.
• C-2 (341), 2025-26: Remove and replace bridge No. 36215, between 3/34, T23/24N, R5W, Grant/Burnett townships. Estimated cost is $250,000.
• C-2 (334), 2026-27: Remove and replace bridge No. 06005, between Section 26/35, T24N, R7W, Elgin Township. Estimated cost is $175,000.
• C-2 (324), 2026-27: Remove and replace bridge No. 02905P, in southeast quarter, Section 21, T25N, R6W, Neligh Township. Estimated cost is $550,000.
• C-2 (282), 2026-27; Replace bridge No. 10305, between Section 29/30/T25N, R8W, Clearwater Township, Estimated cost is $550,000.
• C-2 (422), 2027-28: Construct new roadway on section line west of Clearwater on 515 Road between 851 Avenue. Estimated cost is $250,000.
• C-2 (424), 2027-28: Replace non-bridge size structure on 522 Avenue, between 868 and 869 roads, with new culvert pipes. Estimated cost is $50,000.
• C-2 (296), 2027-28: Existing bridge No. 21940 was replaced with a temporary culvert on emergency basis. Culver to be extended and become permanent replacement. Located between Section 15/16, T282, R7W, Verdigris Township. Estimated cost is $50,000.
• C-2 (431), 2028-29: Construct new pavement on 532 Road between Highway 20 and 865 Avenue. Estimated cost is $400,000.
• C-2 (432), 2028-29: Construct new pavement on 866 Avenue between Highway 14 and 522 Road. Estimated cost is $800,000.
Two projects were dropped during 2024.
• C-2 (421): Install 2 96 inch by 48 feet squash culvert pipe on 524 Avenue near 840 Road, between Oakdale and Cedar Township. Estimated cost was $65,000.
• C (411): Reconstruct 519 avenue between 847 and 848 Road in Ord Township. Estimated cost was $160,000.
