Street projects lined up for village's 1, 6 year plans

Eight street projects will fill Clearwater's six-year street plan. The one-year plan can be summed up in a single word: maintenance.

Village engineer John Zwingman told trustees he went through the prior plan "with a fairly fine-tooth comb."

"Last year's plan costs made zero sense to me and the attached maps didn't match project descriptions," he said during Monday's public hearing held at the fire hall meeting room.

Projects include:

• Nebraska Street, from Iowa Street to Main Street, .22 miles, estimated cost of $193,000.

• Iowa Street, from Nebraska Street to Elm Street, .30 miles, $250.000.

• Main Street, from Reno Street to First Street, .22 miles, $250.000.

• Reno Street, from Montana Street to Colorado Street, .10 miles, $132,000.

• Neuer Street, from Iowa Street to Main Street, .20 miles, $216,000.

• Mitchell Avenue (south), from Dibble Street, east/west Mitchell Avenue and Montana Street from east/west Mitchell avenue to Dibble Street, .10 miles, $137,000.

Zwingman said he estimated costs based on a project he completed earlier this year. Engineering and contingency costs are built into the estimate.

The village may apply for a public works grant to assist with costs. A 25% match would be required. The window to apply for the current round of grants is small, since the deadline falls this week. A spring application process may be available; otherwise, the village can begin working to apply for next year's round of applications.

In other business, trustees:

• Approved a resolution to approve wages for village employees for the fiscal year.

• Voted to donate the Clearwater Cardinal highway sign to the Clearwater Market, with the understanding that the land must be cleared for planting grass in the spot.

• Discussed replacing broken window blocks in the park restrooms.

• Gave the nod to purchase three security cameras for in and outside of the village office and Veterans Park, with a price tag of $3,800.
