The Summerland Bobcat football team traveled to Newman Grove, Aug. 30, to open the 2024 season against the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers.
The Bobcats score 48 points in the first quarter en route to a 60-8 victory.
Michael Koenig led the team in passing, completing 9 of 11 attempts for 156 yards. Mason Schwager connected on two passes for 41 and Aiden McAllister went 1-1 for 8 yards.
Steven Mast led the rushing attack, gaining 50 yards on eight carries. He found his way into the end zone for a touchdown. Mathias Wagner carried the ball three times for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Sam Cheatum and Alec Schindler were the favorite receiving targets. Cheeatum caught five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown, while Schindler grabbed three passes for 76 yards. He found the end zone twice. Preston Hoke added two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Alec Kester caught two passes for 25 yards.
Ethan Kester led the defense with nine tackles, including five solo takedowns. Preston Watson finished with six tackes, while Schindler and Keaton Thiele ended with five apiece. Thiele led the team with two tackles for a loss.
Koenig and Hoke each recorded interceptions.
The Bobcats take on Crofton, Sept. 25 in a home contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
