Sentencings set in drug cases

Joaquin S. Echeverria, 28, of Brenham, Texas, (in custody) appeared for pretrial hearing on a Class 1C felony, possession of more than 28 grams of methamphetamine, with intent to deliver. Pursuant to a plea agreement with Antelope County Attorney Joe Smith, Escheverria pleaded guilty to an amended charge, attempted possession with intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony.

Kube ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing Oct. 30. Escheverria is represented by Carney. He was remanded to the custody of Antelope County sheriff Bob Moore, pending posting of bond in the amount of $100,000, 10% cash.

Escheverria was stopped for speeding Feb. 19 when, according to Smith, Escheverria admitted to the arresting officer he had been contracted to deliver meth from one state to another, traveling through Nebraska.

Douglas J. Jacobs, 32, of Oakdale, appeared alongside Carney, for pretrial hearing on two charges, Count I, a Class 4 felony, possession of meth, and Count II, second-degree criminal trespass, a Class 3 misdemeanor.

A plea agreement was announced. Smith agreed to file no additional charges in the case, to make no sentence recommendation and not oppose probation if recommended in a PSI report. In exchange, Jacobs pleaded guilty to both charges. Kube ordered the PSI and set sentencing Oct. 30. Bond is continued in the amount of $10,000, 10%.

After missing her appointed hearing time Wednesday, Jacob’s co-defendant, Shayla N. Prochaska, 32, of Brunswick, faced Kube later in the morning. She entered not guilty pleas to Count I, a Class 4 felony, possession of meth, and Count II, child abuse/neglect, a Class 3 misdemeanor.

Kube set pretrial hearing Oct. 30 and jury trial, Dec. 10. Bond is continued at $20,000, 10%.

She is represented by court-appointed counsel, Ryan Stover of Norfolk, with Stover’s partner Jason Doele appearing in his stead for the delayed arraignment hearing.

Jacobs and Prochaska were arrested at the Oakdale Cemetery on May 18, after they were found together in an outhouse on cemetery property, while a child was allegedly found in a nearby parked vehicle.
