Lighting system installed, operational along Ewing business district

Installation of Trimlight lighting along Ewing's business district hit a snag.

Joe Kaup, owner of Trimlight lighting, told Ewing village officials, on Aug. 19, "Found out the hard way, can't have a wireless network in the post office or bank, because of security rules, so that threw a major monkey wrench in my original plan."

He spoke with representatives from Great Plains Communication, who suggested establishing multiple hot spots to run the lighting.

"We're not going down that road," Kaup said.

He also contacted Rise Broadband and did not receive a reply.

Kaup was able to create and expand a network. Everything should have been operational by Aug. 23.

In other business, trustees:

• Considered running sewer line to a building on property owned by Ryan's Truck and Tractor. Ryan Schrunk asked if the line could expand along the right of way, so eventually, the business's office building could be hooked up. Currently, a septic system is in place.

Trustee Dustin Wright said he wanted to know how far it would run "from Point A to Point B."

Chairman James Ramold said village officials will contact Miller & Associates, the village's engineer, about the project.

• Approved liquor license renewals for DW's Pub and Woody's.

• Authorized Resolution 428, Certification of Program, for the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

• Approved the purchase of a new motor for the village pickup.

• Discussed adding a pet deposit for the duplex rentals. The item was tabled until September.
