Clearwater Public Library welcomes new director

Chelsea Silbernagel opened not one, but two, new chapters in her life recently.

Not only did the Clearwater native get married on Aug. 17, she recently was hired as the director of the Clearwater Public Library.

Her first day in the position was Aug. 27.

Silbernagel fills the spot left open after former director Kathy Feusse moved to Michigan with her family in late July.

Silbernagel graduated from Clearwater-Orchard Public Schools in 2013. She's worked in customer service-based positions, including a stint as a personal banker at an O'Neill bank.

As library director, she will work toward certification from the Nebraska Library Commission.

She is passionate about reading and offering new programs and opportunities for library patrons of all ages.

One of her main focuses will be to include more adult program options.

Soon, she would like to start a stay-at-home-mom program.

"I want stay-at-home-moms to be able to come and sit around with other moms and just talk about life. Maybe bring a recipe every week to share or maybe just a good TV show or book," she said.

No worries about the children. Silbernagel plans to keep them entertained with boys and toys.

That way, "the mothers have a moment to just feel adult for a moment with other adults, ho are going through the same things. Perhaps it will blossom a few friendships," she said.

Another idea she would like to pursue is to add a trivia night to the library's agenda.

She plans to continue working with area youths as they visit the facility.

"I want to let children come explore, learn and also have fun," she said.

For now, craft kits for kids and spice kits for adults will still be available at Clearwater Market.

Silbernagel has started this year's programming with the Clearwater Learning Center and she said she's excited about adding an activity day for ESU #8 students.

An avid reader, Silbernagel said her reading tendencies fall in the Young Adult genre.

She also "loves thrillers and also coming-to-age books through mystery.

"My favorite series is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," she said.

Clearwater Public Library is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
