Opioid settlement funds will be used
A court advocacy program will receive $10,000 in funding from Holt County following a vote by county supervisors during a July 31 meeting.
Theresa Liewer, president of Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children of North Central Nebraska, along with Holt County Sheriff's Office office manager Tami Malolepszy explained the program, which provides trained, court-appointed volunteers for abused and neglected youth in the foster care system in the service area.
CASA volunteers serve as a voice for children during court proceedings.
Following the presentation, supervisor Doug Frahm made a motion to provide funding to train and support community volunteers. CASA will provide supervisors with an annual progress report, as well as a list of expenditures.
Funding will come from National Opioid Settlement Funds the county has received.
Following a second by Dustin Breiner, supervisors unanimously approved the motion.
In other business, supervisors:
• Considered the extension department budget after discussion with UNL Extension Educator Amy Timmerman;
• Approved a surety bond for Heath Dobrovolny, Francis Township treasurer.
• Okayed a transfer authorization form, giving the county clerk authority to transfer General Fund funds to the Road Fund, with said funds having no tax dollars levied, therefore, periodic transfers need to be made from the General Fund to the Road Fund and to approve transfers from the Inheritance Fund to the General Fund, between July1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
• Approved publication of county salaries, per Statute 23-122.
• Discussed watering roads with Bob Weber and Holt County Attorney Brent Kelly.
