The Tri-County Titan seniors traveled to Wakefield, Sunday July 21, for the last regular-season game of 2024.
Wakefield defeated the shorthanded Titans, 12-4.
“Many of the regular senior Titans were unable to make the game due to family vacations before this week’s football camps and the district tournament next weekend,” said Coach Jeff Shabram.
Tri-County again used “pitcher-by-committee” to prepare the entire pitching staff for the district tournament.
Wyatt Shabram was Tri-County’s starting pitcher, throwing the first three innings. He allowed eight runs on eight hits and four errors, while striking out three batters.
A.J. Hobbs pitched next, throwing one inning while allowing four runs on three hits, three walks, one batter hit by ball and two errors.
Jake Schroeder was the next pitcher up, throwing two scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and one walk, with two strikeouts.
Isaac Hoferer pitched the final inning, striking out three batters.
Shabram said the top of the Titan lineup did a nice job putting the ball in play (with many solid defensive plays by Wakefield), but the rest of Tri-County’s lineup continued to struggle at the plate.
“We scored two runs in the fourth inning on RBI hits by Hoferer and Hobbs scoring Landon Nelson and Shabram. Nelson and Shabram each scored again in the sixth inning with RBIs by Hoferer and Isaac Pavlik.
Tri-County game stats:
Nelson: 1-3 batting, 1 BB, 2 runs, 1 stolen base.
Shabram: 2-3 batting, 1 BB, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases.
