The first round of the 2024 Elkhorn Valley American Legion League tournament was held in Orchard, with the Tri-County seniors taking on Creighton/Bloomfield. In a very efficient 90-minute game, Creighton/Bloomfield came out on top, 4-2.
Wyatt Shabram took to the mound for Tri-County, throwing all seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits with five errors while striking out 10 batters.
Pitchers Keldon Loecker, Taylor Nilson and Braxton Eggerling combined for the Creighton/Bloomfield victory. C/B opened the game with hot hitting, scoring three runs in the first inning and then added another run in the fifth.
This would prove to be enough to hold off the senior Titans.
Scoring for Tri-County came with one run in the first inning, when Connor Thomson scored on a Wyatt Shabram RBI and then one more run in the fourth on a ground-rule double RBI hit by Jake Schroeder scoring Ryan Rifer.
“But there were just too many situations where Tri-County left runners in scoring position with third-out hits to the defense, especially long flyouts. Congratulations to Creighton/Bloomfield on playing a very clean game and advancing to play Ord seniors,” said coach Jeff Shabram.
