Valentine downs Titans in double-header

The Tri-County Titans legion baseball teams were in front of the home crowd at Verdigre this past Sunday, June 30, taking on Valentine in a junior-senior double header.

In the first game, the young Titans played inspired baseball and hung close with the very athletic Valentine junior squad for four innings, keeping the score close at 5-2.

But then Valentine turned it on in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to come away with the 10-2 win.

Pitching for the juniors Titans was a committee of Max Bruce, Jacob Pierzina, Cash Wickersham and Levi Hoferer.

"So many pitchers were needed to save arms for the league tournament coming up this week," said Titans skipper Jeff Shabram.

Max Bruce pitched two innings, four runs allowed on three hits and two BBs with one strikeout.

Jacob Pierzina pitched two innings, one run allowed on 0 hits and two BBs with one strikeout.

Cash Wickersham pitched two-thirds of an inning, with five runs allowed on two hits, three BB, and two HBP.

Levi Hoferer pitched one-third inning, allowing 0 runs on one hit.

In the second game of the day, the senior Titans also played gritty, aggressive baseball only to come away with the 10-6 loss to Valentine’s solid senior squad.

"Just like with the juniors, the senior Titans held close going into the sixth inning only down 4-3. But also just like the juniors, it was one inning that was our demise," Shabram said.

Valentine scored six runs in that sixth inning.

"Pitching for Tri-County seniors was again by committee as we threw five different pitchers in preparation for the league tournament, and we saw a lot of nice things with each guy," Shabram added.
