County museum plans activities

Two days of events are planned July 3 and 4 at the Antelope County Museum to celebrate the installation of a historic windmill on the museum grounds.

“It’s coming up fast,” said museum executive director Donna Hanson. “We hope everyone will come and join in on the fun.”

• On July 3 and 4, vendors will be set up between the schoolhouse and church from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• On July 3, at 1 p.m., Ponca dancers will perform native dances. Attendees are asked to take lawn chairs. At approximately 2 p.m., museum officials will return a sacred pipe to the Ponca.

• On July 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., two food trucks will be set up on the north side of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Other food establishments in Neligh include Sly’s Bar & Grill, Imperial II, Neligh Deli, Subway, and convenience stores, Cubby’s and Casey’s.

• From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Yott, a windmill expert from the Kregel Windmill Factory will be explaining the windmill display south of the main museum building.

The windmill’s placement is the culmination of months of planning and preparation and a partnership between the Antelope County Historical Society and Issiaih Yott, executive director of the Kregel Windmill Factory Museum in Nebraska City.

• At 2 p.m., the new meeting room in the main museum will be dedicated to Ruth and George Strassler
