Community cleanup set in Orchard

Orchard trustees agreed to sponsor a community cleanup event when they met in regular session on June 10.

According to village clerk Brenda Harrison, dumpsters are expected to arrive July 15. Additional information will be announced on the village's Facebook Page.

Trustees also approved hiring AMGL CPA, of Grand Island, to complete the yearly audit.

The board requeted bids since Herley & Reinke CPA, of Norfolk, no longer conducts municipality audits.

Harrison said three companies were approached bout submitting bids. One expressed no interest, one did not respond and the third submitted a bid, which was approved.

Reed Miller, of Miller & Associates, of Kearney will meet trustees on July 15 regarding the village's well and water meters.

The board held discussion on June 10 about the possibility of needing a new well. Installation of water meters was also mentioned during the meeting. No decisions were made.

In other business, trustees:

• Listened to concerns from Curt Mitteis about speed levels going north and south of Orchard on Harrison Street.

• Reviewed areas in the village that should be categorized as a business district and areas labeled as residential districts.

• Received an update about nuisance properties.

• Learned Dusty's made two donations from the Orchard powerlifting meet, with $250 targeted for community center funds and another $250 to the library.
