Warrant issued for no show

The Honorable Kale Burdick, while presiding from the bench in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill last week, signed a bench warrant for the arrest of an Ainsworth man who failed to appear for arraignment.

Burdick signed the warrant calling for the arrest of Brenton K. Mann, 39, who failed to appear for arraignment on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, high test, a Class W misdemeanor alleged April 29. He was arrested by a Holt County deputy after he became stuck in a ditch along 478 Avenue, about one mile north of Highway 20. A Datamaster breath test performed at the Holt County Jail on booking, showed .284 grams of alcohol per 210 L. of his breath. Mann was released May 23, on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

Burdick set a new bond at $5,000, 10% cash.

Alexander W. Larson, 25, of Norfolk appeared June 18 and waived his right to counsel. He pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, a Class 3 misdemeanor, pursuant to a plea deal. In exchange, Count II, possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction, was dismissed by Holt County attorney Brent Kelly. Burdick fined Larson $300 and assessed $50 costs.

Larson was cited by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper April 9 on Highway 20, east of O’Neill.

John C. Meusch, 36, of Atkinson pleaded guilty by waiver to a Class 4 misdemeanor count of violating an open burning ban. Meusch was fined $100 and taxed $49 costs for the April 16 offense. The complaint for burning without obtaining a permit was filed April 20 by Holt County attorney Brent Kelly – on information provided by the Atkinson fire chief.

Baily A. Schrader, 19, of Atkinson pleaded guilty by waiver to no operator’s permit and use of electronic nicotine or other nicotine product. He was fined $75 and $35, respectively and taxed $49 costs. He was cited by an Atkinson city police officer May 24 near West Holt High School.

Jeffrey A. Baker, 59, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, pleaded guilty by waiver to violating commercial vehicle permit rules pertaining to distance between units. He was fined $25 and taxed $49 costs for the Class 3 misdemeanor committed June 14. Baker was cited by a NSP carrier enforcement officer on Highway 20, southeast of O’Neill.

Sydney C. Houchin, 19, of Gothenburg, was allowed to plead guilty by waiver to a Class 3 misdemeanor charge of minor in possession of alcohol. Houchin was cited by a Holt County deputy June 16. He was fined $300 and taxed $50 costs.
