Valentine stifles Titans

SUBMITTED ARTICLE

A very short-handed Tri-County junior and senior squad made the trip to Valentine Thursday, June 13, for a double-header. Both Titan squads came home with a loss.

The junior Titans got on the board first with a run in the first inning by Landon Nelson, off an Isaac Pavlik RBI.

Levi Hoferer started the game on the mound, holding the potent Valentine bats scoreless for the first two innings, but then the floodgates opened as Valentine would go on to score 16 unanswered runs to win the game 1-16.

In the seniors' game, it was a neck-and-neck battle for the first three innings of baseball dominated by the pitchers.

Wyatt Shabram started and pitched 3 1/3 innings scattering five hits and allowing two runs, with three strikeouts, before coming out due to pitch count.

Tri-County seniors game stats:

Connor Thomson: 0-1 batting, 1 BB, 1 HBP.

Shabram: 0-3 batting.

Ryan Rifer: 1-3 batting, 1 stolen base.

Pavlik: 0-1 batting, 1 BB.

Isaac Hoferer: 1-2 batting.

Nelson: 0-1 batting, 1 BB.

Levi Hoferer: 0-2 batting.

Riley Saul: 0-2 batting.

Kaiden Bauer: 0-1 batting, 1 BB.

Similar to the juniors' game, the high-powered Valentine offense came alive, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth.

Meanwhile the Titan bats were making good contact off Valentine ace Trace Buechle, but the gloves were positioned just perfectly, according to Coach Jeff Shabram.

"Even with that said, Titan runners were getting on base, we just couldn't plate any of those base runners."

Valentine held on to win the game 0-8.

Tri-County juniors game stats:

Levi Hoferer: 0-2 batting.

Nelson: 0-0 batting, 2 HBP, 1 run, 2 stolen bases.

Rifer: 0-1 batting, 1 BB.

Pavlik: 0-0 batting, 2 BB, 1 RBI.

I. Hoferer: 0-1 batting, 1 BB.

Rogan Robertson: 0-1 batting, 1 BB.

Parker Frank: 0-1 batting.

Jacob Pierzina: 0-1 batting.

Kasen Kazemba: 0-1 batting.

On Friday, June 21, both the juniors and seniors travel to Plainview for a junior/senior double-header at 5:30 and 8:00 pm.
