Titans tumble in tilts against Plainview

SUBMITTED ARTICLE

The Tri-County Titan seniors lost their second straight game June 11 in Orchard. This loss came at the hands of Plainview, 7-14.

Ryan Rifer was the starting pitcher, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks, while striking out 11 batters before exiting the mound due to maximum pitch count.

The Titan seniors turned to the bullpen for the remaining 2 1/3 innings. Coach Jeff Shabram said the relief pitchers had a tough time finding the strike zone along with some uncharacteristic errors in the field led to Tri-County’s demise as Plainview scored two runs in the fifth, six runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

The senior Titans scored two runs in the first from Connor Thomson and Wyatt Shabram, with RBIs credited to Rifer and Max Bruce.

The Titans plated three more runs in the second, with Isaac Hoferer, Landon Nelson and Kaiden Bauer crossing the plate on RBIs by Riley Saul, Shabram and Rifer.

“But Tri-County went into the scoring drought in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings,” the coach said.

Shabram and Rifer scored in the seventh on RBIs by Bruce and Hoferer, but Plainview’s lead was too much to overcome. Tri-County game stats:

Thomson: 1-3 batting, 1 run, 1 stolen base.

Shabram: 1-3 batting, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 stolen bases.

Rifer: 3-3 batting, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 3 stolen bases.

In the first game of the evening, the Tri-County juniors fell to Plainview, by a score of 2-16.

Bruce was the starting pitcher with Levi Hoferer, Landon McAllister and Rogan Robertson coming in to pitch in relief.

“The first two innings were solid with Plainview only scoring two runs combined, but Plainview erupted in the third inning, scoring 10 runs,” Shabram said.

The two runs scored by the junior Titans were by Bruce and Jacob Pierzina in the third inning, with RBIs going to Rifer and Nelson.
