June 10, 2024

Summerland Public School Board of Education met in regular session, Monday, June 10, 2024, at the school board meeting room.

President Steve Thiele opened the meeting, which was advertised in the June 5, 2024, newspapers, to order at 7 p.m. Thiele noted the Open Meetings Act posted in the boardroom.

Roll call was taken. Present: Scott Thiele, Thiele, Austin Twibell, Jeremy Wagner. Absent: Ed Nordby, Nate Schwager.

Motion by Twibell, seconded by Wagner, to approve absence of Nordby and Schwager. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Motion by Scott Thiele, seconded by Twibell, to approve the agenda as presented. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Public participation. Public participation was not heard.

Motion by Wagner, seconded by Scott Thiele, to approve the consent agenda items. Unless removed from the consent agenda, items identified within the consent agenda will be acted on at one time, including minutes of the May 14, 2024, meeting and monthly financial report. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Discuss, consider and take action on resignations.

Motion by Twibell, seconded by Steve Thiele, to accept the resignation of Alyssa Beed as a paraprofessional. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Motion by Wagner, seconded by Scott Thiele, to accept the resignation of Kathy Strope as a cook. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Discuss, consider and take action on meal prices. Motion by Scott Thiele, seconded by Twibell, to keep the meal prices the same for 2024-2025. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Discuss, consider and take action on policy updates. Motion by Steve Thiele, seconded by Wagner, to approve the proposed policy changes as presented on first reading, waiving the second reading. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

Discuss, consider and take action on declaring items obsolete. Motion by Scott Thiele, seconded by Twibell, to declare the items on the list presented as obsolete. Voting aye: Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Nay: none. Absent: Nordby, Schwager. Motion carried, 4-0-2.

NASB update: No updates at this time.

Administrative reports.

Elementary principal, Mrs. Cooper: preschool graduation, elementary track and field day, National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference, SchoolStore.

Superintendent, Kyle Finke: Building updates, ESSER III report.

President Thiele thanked Mr. Finke for all he has done for our district.

The next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 7 p.m.

President Thiele adjourned the meeting at 7:37 p.m.
