Junior team unsuccessful against Irish
Around the horn • AJ Hobbs rounds the corner, heading toward second base, during Friday's Titans junior contest against O'Neill. Hobbs progressed to third base on the hit, in a game played at Orchard.
The Tri-County Titans seniors were back in action Friday, May 24, at Orchard against O'Neill, where the home team lost a heartbreaker, 2-5, in extra innings.
Jake Schroeder took to the mound and threw five scoreless innings, striking out 10 batters before maxing out his pitch count. The Titan Seniors then turned to Isaac Hoferer (3Ks) and Landon McAllister (1K) to take the mound.
The Titans got on the board early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first by Connor Thomson and Wyatt Shabram on RBIs, courtesy of Ryan Rifer and Schroeder.
But that was the only inning Tri-County would cross the plate the rest of the game.
"Too many times we were left with the bases loaded or at least two on base and just couldn't get them home," said coach Jeff Shabram. "Credit goes to O'Neill for both excellent pitching and defense in the field in those crucial situations."

Thomson: 1-5 batting, 1 run, 1 stolen base.
Shabram: 1-4 batting, 1 run, 1 stolen base.
Rifer: 0-3 batting, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base.
A.J. Hobbs: 1-3 batting, 1 BB, 3 stolen bases.
Schroeder: 0-4 batting, 1 RBI.
Isaac Pavlik: 0-2 batting, 2 HBP, 1 stolen base.
Kaiden Bauer: 0-4 batting.
Riley Saul: 1-3 batting, 1 BB.
Landon McAllister: 1-2 batting, 2 BB.
In the first game of the evening, the Tri-County Juniors fell to O'Neill by a score of 3-9.
Hobbs took to the mound and threw well (3Ks while allowing three runs) before the young Titans turned to Max Bruce, due to A.J.'s pitch count.
O'Neill just kept plugging away the entire game and had a big final inning scoring six runs to put the game away.
"Again, it was the little things for the junior Titans to clean up that makes the difference between winning and losing a baseball game," said Shabram.

Atkinson was scheduled to play the Titan Seniors, in Orchard, Tuesday. Stanton comes to Orchard on Friday, May 31, with another seniors-only game at 7 p.m.
