Building a new generation of community helpers

First-grade students discover the people who keep a community moving forward

Community helpers have been teaching the first grade students about their jobs, so students can learn about careers.

A photographer, Jamie Thiele, taught students about taking photos and showed her camera equipment. She owns Jamie Thiele Photography.

Jaimie Hartigan, a hair stylist from Ewing who owns Shear Attitude, taught us how to style and make a mohawk. She also styled girls' hair!

LuAnn Schindler and Scott Schindler, publishers of the Summerland Advocate-Messenger, came and taught us how to read the paper, tell us how much work it takes to make the paper, and how to write a story.

Kinsley Boettcher said, "All community helpers have to be kind, respectful, and professional!"

Barrett Thiele added, " The photographer was my favorite because we got to take pictures!"

Students learned about the community and community helpers around us right in the classroom at Summerland Public School.

"We loved learning about a couple of community helpers in our area," students responded.
