A dozen Summerland art students brought home approximately 35 awards from the Niobrara Valley Conference art show, held in Bassett, April 26.
Caydence Schumacher received three judge's merit awards for Marilyn Monroe, Avator and a bird watercolor. Three pieces received first place, including a colored flower, a clay gnome and a rose painting. A drawing of Freddie Mercury placed second, as did an ink drawing of a skull. A heart drawing received honorable mention. Two pieces - an ink collage and a clay cookie, were each given a commendable rating.
Raina Krebs received a judge's merit award for a pencil portrait. Two pieces, including a colored drawing and marker flowers, placed second. Krebs earned two commendable awards for a forest painting and a mountain painting.
Leah Wiese received a second-place award for a pencil drawing of shoes. An ink flower received a commendable award. She also submitted a colored pencil drawing of a flower.
An ink flower, designed by Karley Dawkins, earned a commendable award.
Ammy Arroyo submitted a sunset drawing, made with markers.
A painting of a sky, by Destiny Stenka, placed second. She received a commendable rating for an ink project.
Jadyn Hobbs earned a judge's merit award for a clay dragon. A self-portrait earned honorable mention.
Sophie Rittscher earned four awards. A watercolor of a bird and another of an octopus both received second place. A clay pot she made received honorable mention. A pencil drawing of a bird earned a commendable ranking.
A painting of a beach, drawn by Jenna Funk, received honorable mention. A marker project she made received a commendable award.
Omar Moncada's pencil still-life project received second place.
A Brylie Billings painting earned commendable honors.
Kenna Brabec entered a tissue paper flower project.
Eight junior high artists earned awards. Reagan Parker won judge's merit honors for a colored drawing of candy and a colored-pencil drawing of a bug. She earned first place for a pencil drawing of a cat. A drawing of an eye received second-place honors.
Landyn Coffey received second for a scratch-art submission.
A scratch-art project of a fish earned a commendable ranking for Laken Cleveland.
Honorable mention honors for scratch art of the Joker went to Luke Kester.
Jennie Mejia placed first with scratch art of a flower.
Zander Tabbert received honorable mention for a sunset piece.
Belle Anson placed second, with a colored-pencil drawing of a flower.
Jacob Schlecht's Husker scratch art earned second.
