Ewing officials announce open house, ribbon cutting at duplex

Ewing residents will have two opportunities to celebrate the completion of a duplex project, made possible through grant monies from the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

On Sunday, May 19, an open house will be held at the units, located at 204 N. Cedar Street. The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m.

An official ribbon cutting will take place Monday, May 20, at 11 a.m.

Each unit features 1,100 square feet of living space, including two bedrooms, a main bathroom, kitchen, utility room and single-car garage.

Appliances will be provided.

Monthly rent will run $650, which includes sewer, trash, water and lawn maintenance.

Tenants are responsible for electric, gas and snow removal costs.

In August 2022, the village received $431,640 from the Nebraska Affordable Housting Trust Fund for construction and provided a $100,000 match for the project.

The grant will be structured on a five-year affordability basis. Units are available to income-qualified renters.

Rental applications may be submitted to the village office. Village Clerk Sharon Swails will forward applications to CDS Inspections & Beyond, based in Plainview, for review.

At the March village meeting, Carla Kimball, executive director of the Central Nebraska Economic Development District, said, "First in with all documents is the first person who will be eligible to move in. It'll be the same on the second unit."

If a tenant moves out in the five-year affordability period, the rental process will start over with new applicants.

Construction on the project began in August 2023, with Thramer Construction as the lead contractor.
