Whiting, Rifer earn conference crowns

The Bobcat boys' track team left Atkinson, Saturday, with two conference champions.

Gavin Whiting, a junior, claimed the shot put title with a throw of 48' 4.25 inches. He set a personal record in discus, with a toss of 128' seven inches. He ended in fourth place.

Junior Ryan Rifer set a PR in high jump, clearing 6' two inches, to claim first place.Rifer also finished 14th in the 800m, running 2:27.09.

Ruger Switzer brought home the bronze medal in high jump, after he cleared 5' 10 inches. Switzer ended in fifth place in long jump. He landed at 18' 11.5 inches.

Alec Schindler picked up a silver medal in the 300m hurdles, just .04 off the lead pace. Schindler ran 43.09. In triple jump, Schindler established a season record, landing at 40' 6.5 inches. The jump secured a silver medal. He ended in fourth place in the 110m hurdles. He ran 16.87.

Parker Napier, Preston Hoke, Schindler and Switzer placed third in the 4x100, finishing the race in 46.50.

Napier cleared 10' six inches, placing fourth in pole vault. In the 300m hurdles, he ended in ninth, running 45.22. He placed seventh in long jump, reaching 18' 3.25 inches.

The freshman 4x100 team ran 57.01, placing fourth. Team members include Beau Ahlers, Alec Kester, Dewayne Baker and Tucker Dougherty.

Carter Bergman ended sixth in triple jump. He reached 38' 2.5 inches.

In pole vault, Ethan Kester cleared 10 feet, finishing seventh.

Zander Cepel placed eighth in the 1600m. He ran the race in 5:42.68. Cepel just missed a medal in the 3200m race. He placed ninth, with a time of 12:51.16.

The 4x800 team, comprised of Rogan Robertson, Dougherty, Baker and Ahlers, placed eighth. They ran the course in 10:26.63.

Robertson: 1600m, ninth, 5:44.56, PR;

AJ Hobbs: 110m hurdles, 13th, 20.85;

Connor Thomson: 100m, 15th, 13.03; 200m, 14th, 26.60;

Luis Perez: 1600m, 17th, 6:39.66;

Shayne Jenkins: 100m, 19th, 13.42;

Ahlers: 200m, 23rd, 28.25, PR; long jump, 14th, 15' five inches;

Baker: 400m, 23rd, 1:05.80, PR; 800m, 21st, 2:43.18, PR;

Kester: 400m, 24th, 1:10.16;

Jason Shaver: shot put, 20th, 34' 5.25", PR; discus: 25th, 74' two inches, PR; and

Kevin Lopez: shot put, 29th, 22" 11.25 inches; discus, 71' three inches.

The Bobcats finished third in team standings, with 75.5 points.

West Holt won the team title, scoring 221.5, followed by Elkhorn Valley. The Falcons ended with 109 points.
