Page teen bound over to district court on felony charges

Korbin W. Kellum, 19, of Page appeared in front of the Honorable Kale Burdick in the Holt County courtroom on April 16, facing nine counts, two of them felonies.

Kellum waived his right to preliminary hearing and was bound over on Count VI, possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony, and Count IX, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, a Class 2 felony. Burdick waived jurisdiction of the misdemeanor and infraction counts to the district court as well. They include Count I, no valid registration, a Class 3 misdemeanor; Count II, no proof of financial responsibility, a Class 2 misdemeanor; counts III, IV and V, possession of drug paraphernalia, infractions; Count VII, no operator’s license, a Class 3 misdemeanor; and Count VIII, no license on person, a Class 3 misdemeanor.

Kellum failed to appear in the district courtroom for arraignment April 22, nor were written not guilty pleas and waiver of appearance filed. The hearing is rescheduled for May 13.

Bond, posted Jan. 2, is continued, in the amount of $15,000, 10%. Kellum is represented by appointed counsel Michael Sholes.

According to an affidavit filed by O’Neill police Sergeant Robert Jensen, Kellum was stopped for expired license plates Dec. 30 in O’Neill. After noticing the “faint odor” of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and sighting a cigarette package and lighter on the floor, he reported finding a “one-hitter” methamphetamine pipe with charred/melted suspected meth. A .22 caliber rifle was located during a search of the vehicle, along with other items of paraphernalia.
