CTE organizations have outstanding showing at state conventions, competitions

This month, three career and technical education organizations at Summerland Public Schools have attended state conventions, giving students an opportunity to show knowledge gained in the classroom and compete in a variet of events.

FFA

The Summerland FFA chapter attended its state convention, in Lincoln, April 3 to 5.

Two students received gold medals, including Jenna Funk in cooperative speaking and Braelyn Bergman, discovery speaking.

Two groups received silver awards.

The Conduct of Chapter Meeting Team, including Savannah Gallagher, Katelyn Kester, Bergman, Kyah Bruhn, Sierra Thomson, Charlee Wagner and Cassie Livingston, accepted a silver award, as did the Parliamentary Procedure Team, which consists of Funk, Shaylie Kester, Breckyn Bergman, Carter Bergman, Ethan Kester and Bennet Flenniken.

In environmental and natural resources, AJ Hobbs, Gavin Whiting, Carter Bergman and Logan Kester received a purple ribbon, finishing seventh among 76 teams. Each student earned an individual blue ribbon.

Carlee Livingston, Carter Bergman, Ethan Kester and Flenniken competed in ag sales. The team finished 12th of 36 teams. Livingston received an individual blue medal.

In agriscience, Katelyn Kester, Gallagher, Wagner and Breckyn Bergman received a red ribbon. The team finished in 37th place, in a field of 141 teams. Bergman received a blue ribbon; Wagner, red; and Gallagher, white.

Two students, Whiting and Clair Krysl, participated in the Ag Issues Academy at the state capitol.

SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA students traveled to Grand Island, April 11 to 13, for the 2024 state convention.

Seven students earned state medals.

Julie Olivan finished second in prepared speech.

In Job Skills Demo Open, Carlee Livingston earned a bronze medal.

The CPS/natural resources/ag/food team comprised of Sophie Rittscher, Thomson and Cassie Livingston received a bronze medal.

In the junior high division, Jack Heim competed in extemporaneous speaking. He receeived the bronze medal.

Taylen Nilson earned a bronze medal in Job Skills Demo 'A.'

FCCLA

Four students attended the FCCLA state conference in Lincoln, April 7 -9.

The Summerland Chapter received three awards. As a new chapter, the organization was presented with a New Chapter Award.

Summerland FCCLA earned a Silver Chapter Award, for completing multiple activities to promote, publicize, retain, recognize and recruit new members.

The final award received was the Junior Mint Award, for chapter growth in grades seven through nine.

Ashley Harrison, FCCLA advisor, received an ACE Award for her commitment to FCCLA.

Individual performances in STAR events resulted in two gold medals and two silver medals.

Gavin Whiting received gold in Job Interview Level 3.

Belle Anson earned gold in Entrepreneurship Level I.

In Career Investigation Level 2, Emma King received silver, while in Career Investigation Level 3, Addisyn Fletcher received silver.
