Holt County women sentenced after alcohol-related traffic stops

Dreidy M. Macias Vega, 29, of Atkinson appeared in front of the Honorable Kale Burdick April 16 in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill, for an entry of plea hearing on two counts, willful reckless driving, first offense, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and possession of an open alcohol container, an infraction.

Pursuant to a plea agreement, Macias Vega pleaded guilty to an amended Count I, reckless driving, still a Class 3 misdemeanor and Holt County attorney Brent Kelly dismissed Count II.

Burdick fined Macias Vega $500 for the Jan. 16 offense and taxed her $105 costs of prosecution.

Macias Vega was represented by Rodney Palmer of Atkinson. Irma Watt served as interpreter.

Macias Vega was arrested in Atkinson on Jan 16 after a report was received that she was driving “all over the road” at about 40 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone west of the village, according to an arrest affidavit file by Atkinson police officer Steven Binkerd.

A preliminary breath test result was .106 g/210 L and a chemical test conducted at the Holt County Jail read .074.

Ana A. Tiffer Calderon, 42, of O’Neill appeared for an entry of plea hearing. Tiffer Calderon was charged with Count I, driving under the influence of alcohol, .150 or more, a Class W misdemeanor, and Count II, no operator’s license, a Class 3 misdemeanor, both alleged Jan. 1.

On Feb. 26, Kelly filed an amended complaint charging Tiffer Calderon with Count I, DUI, .08 or more but less than .150 grams per 201 liters, and Count II, possession of open alcohol container, an infraction.

Tiffer Calderon pleaded guilty April 16, to Count I and Kelly dismissed Count II as part of a plea agreement.

Burdick fined Tiffer Calderon $500, ordered a six-month term of probation and revoked her driver’s license for 60 days. She was assessed $105 costs and ordered to pay $210 in probation fees.

Tiffer Calderon was represented by Michael Sholes, who was appointed after Holt County public defender Rod Smith asked to be removed from the case. Watt served as interpreter.

Tiffer Calderon was arrested outside of O’Neill, near the intersection of 872 Road and 497 Avenue. A Holt County deputy, in an arrest affidavit, reported the defendant was driving “approximately 10 miles per hour and still driving over the center line twice in the distance of about of a mile.” Leading up to a traffic stop. The result of a preliminary breath test was .265g/210L. She later tested .208 in a post-arrest chemical test when she was booked at the Holt County Jail.

Garret M. Belitz, 21, of Neligh pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a Class 3 misdemeanor count of possessing an open alcohol container. He was fined $50 and taxed $49 costs for the March 16 offense committed in O’Neill.

Burdick issued a warrant for the arrest of Todd D. Mitchell, who failed to appear on a Class 4 felony bad check charge. According to an affidavit filed by Kelly, Mitchell wrote a $2,522.82 bad check to Quality Alignment and Repair in O’Neill on Feb. 9.

A warrant is pending for the arrest of Karsen Peterson, 21, of Chambers. Peterson failed to appear for arraignment on two Class 1 misdemeanor charges, Count I, first-degree criminal trespass, and Count II, criminal mischief, $1,500 - $4,999, both alleged Aug. 30 2023.

According to an affidavit filed by Chief Holt County deputy Ed Nordby, Peterson is accused of driving through barbed-wire fences in an area where a bonfire and party were held last summer in Holt and Garfield counties. The damage occurred in an area of 846 Road, between 481 and 484 avenues. The deputy reported intermittent damage, with approximately one and one-half miles of damaged fence.
