Randall Dean Robertson was born Oct. 18, 1946, in Orchard, to Glen and Minnie (Schwager) Robertson. The youngest of three children, Randall grew up in Orchard and graduated from Orchard High School in 1964. After high school, he attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, where he played basketball. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He married Debra Olson at the Congregational Church in Brunswick on Aug. 16, 1974. To this union two children were born, Mandi and Ramsy. Randall worked for Lyle Schleusener at the Orchard Grain Elevator for 25 years before accepting a custodial position at Orchard Public School, where he also drove school bus. After retiring from Orchard Public School in 2008, Randall just couldn't sit idle, so he worked part time for Hurtig Plumbing and for Gib Kelly, delivering seed. He enjoyed this time because he got to visit and meet many people.
Randall was an active member of the Orchard American Legion Post 136 for more than 50 years. He served as the adjutant for many years, as well as a member and coordinator of the honor guard. Randall rarely missed marching in a parade and took part in many Veterans Day programs and Memorial Day ceremonies. He was also a long-time member of the Orchard Methodist Church. Randy also proudly served as the mayor of Orchard. He and his wife, Deb, were crowned the king and queen of Orchard during their town's celebration in the early 2000s.
Randall was a devoted husband to his wife Debra for nearly 50 years. He was a proud father and enjoyed quality time with his son Ramsy and daughter Mandi. He loved the outdoors. Randall spent many hours hunting, fishing, golfing, grilling and gardening. Randall had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a good joke or story. His smile could light up the room. His greatest joy was watching his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren grow, compete and chase goals and dreams. Randall was a kind, true, loving, dedicated man. He was a proud veteran who loved his family, friends, hometown and country with all he had.
Randall is survived by his wife, Debra, of 50 years; his two children, Mandi Weina of Orchard and Ramsy (Angie) Robertson of Orchard; grandchildren, Tristan Weina, Bryli Cmejla, Preslie, Lydia, Rogan and Olson Robertson; great-grandchildren, Emery and Walker; sister, Betty Bates and Larry Ackles of Chambers; step-sister, Alice (Dale) Erich of Gering; many relatives and friends.
