Despite a loss to Elgin Public/Pope John in Thursday's girls' subdistrict basketball final, the Lady Bobcats will continue post-season play.
They enter district finals as a wildcard and will face Centura, Friday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., at the school located at 201 N. Highway 11 in Cairo.
Bobcat head coach Jacob Birch said his squad is excited to have the opportunity to receive a wildcard berth and have another chance to compete.
"Centura is a very good team and won a state championship last year. Everyone in district finals is really good, but we are excited for the chance to compete at leastone more time for a chance to get to Lincoln," Birch said.
The Centurians, 19-6, enter districts as the number seven seed, while Summerland sits in the number 10 spot. They're led by Kyra Wooden, who averages 12.6 points per game.
Birch said the girls have set a goal of reaching the state tournament since Day One of practice.
"Now it's time to go out and do everything we can to accomplish the goal," he said.
