Seven Bobcats Omaha bound for state event

The 2024 Nebraska School Activities Associaton State Wrestling Championships begin tomorrow at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.

Summerland will be represented in both the girls' and boys' division, slated to begin at 3 p.m.

The Bobcat girls' team will be represented by Ava Cleveland, 110-pound division; Kaylee Thiele, 135-pound division; Ammy Arroyo, 190-pound division; and Raina Krebs, 235-pound division. They advance from Friday's district competition in York.

Three Bobcat boys' team members will compete, including Ethan Kester, 138-pound division; Jesse Thiele, 140-pound division; and Mathew Umphress, 157-pound division. The three finished in the top four of their respective weight classes at districts held in Pleasanton.

Cleveland enters the meet with a 34-5 record and will meet Jade Stockton of North Platte.

Kaylee Thiele, 32-14 on the year, will face Alizabeth Whitley, Lyons-Decatur.

Arroyo enters state competition with a 26-7 record. She will wrestle Zulema Godinez, South Sioux City.

Krebs will meet Kendall Holtmeyer, Omaha Bryan. Krebs sits at 23-3.

Kester's record is 40-9. He'll meet Corbin Hoefer, Neligh-Oakdale.

Jesse Thiele will meet Keaton Dowse of Twin Loup. Thiele enters the meet with a 32-11 competition.

Umphress sits at 22-12 on the season. He'll meet Jeff Vrbka, Shelby-Rising City.

Quarterfinals will begin at the completion of the first round.

Friday's competition will begin at noon, with the first and second rounds of consolation matches for girls and boys.

Semifinal and third-round consolation matches will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday matches will include consolation semifinals, beginning at 9 a.m. Third- and fifth-place matches will start following the consolation semifinals. Championship matches will begin at 3
