School board approves resignations, contracts

Teacher and administrative contracts and a classified work agreement dominated the majority of the Summerland Board of Education's 42-minute meeting Monday night.

The board approved staff resignations from transportation driver Kris Tabbert, effective Feb. 15.

Two elementary educators also submitted resignations, effective at the end of this school year. Jordyn Kuhl, special education instructor, and sixth-grade teacher Ashley Larby will not return next year.

Administrative contracts for principals Zach Rosenboom and Cathy Cooper were tabled until next month.

Board vice president Nate Schwager, acting as president due to the absence of President Steve Thiele, said a negotiations meeting had taken place Monday evening prior to the board meeting.

"We don't have a whole lot put together so we'd like to push that to next month," Schwager said.

Supt. Kyle Finke said he and Cooper interviewed Katie Greene on Feb. 2 and offered a position as an elementary special education instructor for next year.

Greene formerly worked at the Central Learning Center in Clearwater. She's filling a long-term substitute position at Elkhorn Valley, where she completed her student teaching experience.

"She comes highly recommended," Finke said.

The board approved a motion to hire Greene.

Jeff Henning, of Clearwater, was offered a classified work agreement to fill a position in the school's cafeteria.

"He has agreed to work in the kitchen and we also agreed to hire him as custodial help in the summer," Finke said.

Henning will begin employment Feb. 19.
