Summerland Public School SPECIAL MEETING

Feb. 7, 2024

Summerland Public School Board of Education held a special meeting, Feb. 6, 2024, at the school. President Steve Thiele called the special meeting, which was advertised in the Jan. 31, 2024, newspapers, to order at 4 p.m. Thiele noted the Open Meetings Act posted in the boardroom.

Roll call was taken. All board members were present: Ed Nordby, Nate Schwager, Scott Thiele, Steven Thiele, Austin Twibell. Jeremy Wagner.

Motion by Wagner, seconded by Scott Thiele, to approve the agenda as presented. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Motion carried 6-0.

Interviews with superintendent candidates. The board conducted the interview with Chris Lecher beginning at 4:01 p.m. and concluding at 4:55 p.m.

Discussion on interview candidates.

Review stakeholder feedback. President Thiele opened all the committee interview packets and read the strengths of each candidate as presented by those committees, which were administration, certified staff and classified staff.

Possible executive session to discussion negotiations as it relates to the superintendent position. Motion by Schwager, seconded by Scott Thiele, to enter executive session at 5:08 p.m., to discuss the superintendent candidates and is necessary for the protection of needless injury to the reputation of any individuals. Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Motion carried 6-0.

The board came out of executive session at 6:50 p.m.

Discuss, consider and take action on a superintendent’s contract. Motion by Schwager, seconded by Nordby, to authorize President Steve Thiele to negotiate with candidate “A.” Voting aye: Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Thiele, Twibell, Wagner. Motion carried 6-0.

The board recessed at 6:51 p.m., to eat and allow President Thiele to make contact with candidate “A”. The board reconvened at 7:28 p.m., at which time President Thiele stated that there would be no further information for the night and an announcement would be made the next day.

President Thiele adjourned the meeting at 7:28 p.m.
