Superintendent interviews set for Feb. 6, 7

While who will be interviewed for the superintendent position at Summerland Public Schools won't be determined until tonight, the format for the interview process has been established.

SPS board of education members were slated to meet in special session, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. in the board room.

Based on the agenda for the meeting, the board may enter executive session before taking action on applications.

According to Shari Becker, director of search services for the Nebraska Association of School Boards, candidates names will be released once invitations for interviews have been extended and accepted. She expected the process could take until Friday.

At 4 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Wednesday, Feb. 7, the board will hold interviews with potential candidates.

Becker the interview process will be spread over two evenings.

"We do not know how many will be selected to interview, but we have time planned for two interviews each day," Becker said.

Candidates will meet with the board, a variety of staff groups and take a tour.

Based on the Feb. 7 agenda, the board will review stakeholder feedback following the interviews and possibly enter executive session "to discuss negotiations as it relates to the superintendent position.

Agendas for both special meetings are included on Page 8.

Becker said survey information gives the board insight on what the staff, parents and patrons of the Summerland school district would be looking for in a new superintendent relating to background experience and attributes.

"The survey also identifies for the board, what the stakeholders believe are strengths and challenges of the school district."

Becker was unable to report the final number of surveys since it is open until Jan. 31.

The new hire will fill the position currently held by Superintendent Kyle Finke, who submitted his resignation, Dec. 13, during the board's regular monthly meeting.
