Commissioner candidate interview date set

Residents in Antelope County District 5 will soon know who will serve as their supervisor following the resignation of current supervisor Keith Heithoff.

Antelope County Clerk Lisa Payne announced that applications will be reviewed during a public meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m., in the commissioners' meeting room at the courthouse in Neligh.

County attorney Joe Smith, county treasurer Deb Branstiter and Payne will conduct the interviews.

The individual selected must be a registered voter and a resident of the district, which includes all of Grant Township and a portion of Cedar, Oakdale, Burnett and Logan townships.

The term for the position runs through Jan 7, 2027.

The individual appointed to fill the term will receive an annual salary of $18,750, with availability for health insurance and retirement benefits.

In September 2023, Heithoff announced he would resign from office in early 2024 after announcing he and his family would be moving to Arkansas. He will officially step down on Feb. 14.
