Quilt of Valor presentation

Eileen Krumbach, of the Stars, Stripes and Stitches QoV group, based in Shelby, presents Duard Dempster with a Quilt of Valor on July 16, 2023, during Dempster's 90th birthday celebration at the Methodist Church fellowship hall in Orchard. Dempster was born July 17, 1933, and drafted by the Army onNov. 1, 1953. Basic training was held at Fort Riley, Kansas, followed by leadership training school at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Dempster was then stationed in Germany for 18 months. He ran a D7 CAT for six months. He was in the 109th Combat Division. There was a 1,000-foot-long floating Bailey Bridge on the Rhine River. He was appointed to motor pool sargeant for one year where he was in charge of more than 30 vehicles. Dempster was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1955, with rank of EES5. Dempster is a member of American Legion Post #136 in Orchard and currently resides at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek. He currently holds a permanent membership to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Creighton.
