Bobcat girls team wins West Holt Invite

Summerland girls' wrestling team brought home its first-ever championship trophy, Monday, Dec. 4.

They scored 134 points to claim the title at the West Holt Girls Invitational.

The host team finished second, with 117, in the 13-team event.

The Bobcats finished with 10 medal winners, including two first-place finishes from Ava Cleveland and Raina Krebs.

Cleveland drew a first-round bye in the 110 class and in round two, pinned Mollie Corkle, O'Neill, in 1:16. She picked up another pin in round three, when she defeated teammate Yazlin Zermeno. Cleveland pinned Zermeno in :29.

She continued her winning ways in round four, pinning Karma Henry, Randolph, in :17 and in the final round, it took her 1:14 to pin Teegen Hasebroock, EV.

Krebs was the lone contestant in the 235 class.

Savannah Gallagher finished second in the 120-pound class. She opened with a win, by fall, in 1:52, over Paisley Johnson, St. Mary's. In the semifinal, she pinned Ainsworth's Nelly Hoche, in :50. During the championship match, Felycia Kerkman, WH, claimed a 10-5 decision.

Kaylie Thiele claimed a silver medal in the 135-pound class. She opened with a win, by fall, in 1:19, over Payton Peter, O'Neill. In the semifinal, she pinned Ord's Payton Whited, winning in 5:16. She battled Lillian Hagemann, EV, in the championship match and lost, by fall, in 3:33.

Amor Zermeno finished third in the 105-pound class. In the first round, she lost, by fall, in 4:40m to Anna Kiser, of O'Neill. In round three, Marissa Bennet, Elkhorn Valley, pinned Zermeno in 3:00.

Yazlin Zermeno also earned bronze. In the 110 division. She was pinned by Corkle, O'Neill, in :25 in the opening round. In round two, Zermeno earned a 7-2 decision over Hasebroock, EV and fell to Cleveland in round three. In the final round, Zermeno pinned Henry, Randolph, in 3:11.

Lenora Kester brought home bronze in the 115-pound class. She pinned Morgan Nincehelser, Plainview, in 1:51, in the opening round and was pinned in 1:25, by Neligh-Oakdale's Baylee Chessmore, during second-round action. That set up a consolation match against Niobrara/Verdigre's Danika Runnel, which Kester won by pin, in 1:04. In the third-place match, Kester pinned Zaily Daniels, Ainsworth, in 4:15.

Abbey Chipps finished third in the 130-pound class. She opened with a one-minute pin of Makenzie Mosel, Plainview. In the semifinals, Grace Drueke pinned Chipps, in 1:40. She faced O'Neill's Emily Krause in the consolation semifinal and won, by fall, in :50. She tussled with Mosel one more time, in the third-place match and found success again, winning by fall, in :46.

In the 145-pound class, Jadyn Hobbs placed third. She opened with a loss, by fall, in 3:50, to Morgan Kuchta, Cedar Catholic. She picked up a second-round win, by fall, in 1:41, over Ainsworth's Braelyn Rudnick. In the final round, Hobbs lost by fall, in :35, to Kennedy Penne, EV.

Ammy Arroyo received a third-place medal in the 190-pound class. She opened with a win by pin, in :28, over Miranda Phares, Ainsworth. In round two, Arroyo pinned O'Neill's Miryam Garcia, in :53. Madison Kuchta, CC, pinned Arroyo in 3:40 in the fourth round and in round five, Paola Vergara, O'Neill, pinned her in :50.

Kyah Bruhn finished fifth in the 170-pound class. In round one, she lost a 3-2 decision to Raelyn Brummels, EV and fell to Sierra Kluthe, Ord, in :24, during a second-round match. Brooke Carey, WH, pinned Bruhn in 3:00 in the third round and in round four, Taylor Pavlik, NV, pinned Bruhn in 1:38.

Ashley Galvin competed at 115, losing a first-round match to Jolyn Pozehl, Ainsworth, in :38. In a consolation match, Runnel, NV, pinned Galvin in 5:58.

Aubrey Parker lost her first match, by fall, in :35, to Gracie Wortman, Randolph. In the consolation round, Parker won a 17-12 decision over teammate Beatriz Milkem, before falling to Hoche, of Ainsworth, in :58.

Milkem lost a first-round match to Kerkman, WH, by fall, in :58. She was eliminated after a 17-12 loss to Summerland's Parker.

In the 125-pound class, Gracie Mudloff opened with a 11-1 major decision over Ord's Chloe Kokes. WH's Aleigha Ogden pinned Mudloff, in 1:12, in the semifinals. She faced Daphne Mitchell, WH, in the consolation round and was eliminated after a loss, by fall, in 4:52.

Abby Arroyo opened competition in the 130 class with a win, by fall, in 4:33, over Harley Kinnison, O'Neill. She lost to WH's Madalyn Pistulka, by fall, in 1:08. She faced Mosel, Plainview, in the consolation semifinal and lost, by fall, in :55.
