Defendants arraigned in Antelope County court

Shane A. Sleister, 49, of Oakdale faced the Honorable Donna Taylor in the Antelope Count courtroom in Neligh on Oct. 4, for arraignment on two counts, Count I, resisting arrest, a Class 1 misdemeanor; and Count II, driving under suspension, a Class 3 misdemeanor.

If convicted, Sleister faces up to a $1,000 fine and/or one year incarceration on Count I and up to $500/90 days on Count II. Sleister requested court-appointed counsel. Taylor appointed Antelope County public defender Pat Carney and set further arraignment Nov. 1. Bond is continued, in the amount of $4,000, 10% cash.

Sleister was arrested Sept. 20, in Oakdale, after he fled on foot from Antelope County deputies.

Kristopher T. Dorie, 39, of Albion appeared for arraignment on a count of third-degree assault, alleged Aug. 22. If convicted of the Class 1 misdemeanor, Dorie faces up to a $1,000 fine and/or one year incarceration. Dorie requested court-appointed counsel. Taylor appointed Carney and set further arraignment Nov. 1.

Kegan J. McAllister, 19, of Tilden appeared for arraignment on a charge of third-degree domestic assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor alleged July 6. If convicted, he faces up to a $1,000 fine and/or one year incarceration McAllister requested continuance to consult with an attorney. Further arraignment is set Nov. 1. On a prosecution motion, Taylor ordered any bond in the case include a condition for no direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim.

Melissa A. Murberger, 47, of Neligh faced Taylor for arraignment on a charge of littering, a Class 3 misdemeanor alleged July 15, and pretrial hearing on a Class 2 misdemeanor count of third-degree assault (by mutual consent) alleged June 29. Murberger requested court-appointed counsel on the littering charge and Taylor appointed Martin Klein of Neligh, who represents her in the other case.

Antelope County Attorney Joe Smith indicated the charge was filed incorrectly. “It is actually theft of services,” he said.

Klein indicated agreement had been reached in the assault case, “until about two minutes ago.”

He requested continuance, based on the new charge.

Taylor continued both cases to Nov. 1, as well as the case of co-defendant Ronald E. Murberger, 52, of Neligh, who is also charged with third-degree assault by mutual consent.

Ronald Murberger is represented by Carney.

Michael R. Pulis, 46, of Atkinson appeared, alongside Carney, for a restitution hearing and sentencing on three counts, Count I, no proof of financial responsibility, a Class 2 misdemeanor; Count II, operate an unregistered vehicle, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and Count III, careless driving, an infraction, all committed Dec. 21, 2022, when he was involved in a two-vehicle collision west of Neligh.

Carney requested continuance to finish work on restitution amount. Taylor continued sentencing to Nov. 15.

The following defendants had their court appearances continued:

• Jolene L. Miller, 33, of Hudson, Wisconsin; arraignment continued to Nov. 15 on two infraction counts, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both alleged July 12 in Orchard;

• Austin L. McCullough, 30, of Hudson, Wisconsin; arraignment continued to Nov. 15 on two infraction counts, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both alleged July 12 in Orchard; and

Julius Tauber, 21, Camp Lejune, North Carolina; arraignment continued to Nov. 15 on two counts of intimidation by phone call, alleged Sept. 17 and Sept. 18, 2022.
