Fundraising underway for Clearwater veterans' park

A tribute to Clearwater-area veterans is one step closer to reality.

Clearwater Board of Trustees gave approval to a group of residents, including members of the local American Legion and Auxiliary, who approached the board when it met in August, about renovating the area south of the public library and adding a veterans' memorial on the lot.

Little did organizers know the artistic portion of the project would be complete within the week.

On Aug. 19, Tilden artist Adam Boggs completed the first phase. After drawing a rough sketch, Boggs brought the former white wall to life by adding an American flag, bald eagle and a soldier, kneeling near a cross, set against a yellow-red skyline.

He completed the mural in 10 hours.

Other plans for the area include a walking path, refurbished flag pole, statues and landscaping.

Individuals wanting to make a donation toward the park may do so by leaving donations at Cornerstone Bank in Clearwater.
