Meal prices remain steady for upcoming school year, fee policy prices approved

Meal prices are expected to remain the same for the upcoming school year at Summerland Public Schools, following a recommendation from Superintendent Kyle Finke made at the district's July 17 board of education meeting.

Breakfast, served daily from 7:40 to 8 a.m., will cost $1.50 for students, while adults will pay $2.40.

Lunch prices will remain at $2.35 for kindergarten through sixth grade students. The cost for students in grades seven through 12 will be $2.50, while adults will pay $4 per lunch.

A la carte items will see a 10-cent increase.

Student fees will also remain steady for the upcoming year. During a policy hearing, Finke said last year, students in grades seven through 12 were charged a $25 rental fee for technology.

"That covers any type of damage," Finke said.

Last year, a $10 activity fee per student was added, which allowed entrance into any home, non-tournament event.

Finally, junior and senior high school students pay a $20 class dues fee.

"The ultimate goal is graduation and prom for juniors and seniors," Finke said.

Board members unanimously approved the fee schedule as presented.

In other action, the board:

• Heard a recommendation from the Building and Grounds Committee to continue through the season with Schilousky Lawn Care. They will look at options for next year at a later time.

• Learned a report from the Goals Committee will be emailed to all board members. The report follows a committee meeting with Marcia Herring from the Nebraska Association of School Boards.

• Discussed a proposed storage building to be constructed on the southwest corner by the football field.

• Approved student, staff and activity handbooks, following discussion of proposed policies and changes.

• Accepted a milk bid, for the 2023-2024 school year, from Hiland Dairy.
