Pender Post #55 traveled to Orchard, July 5, to play the Tri-County Titans in junior legion baseball action. Pender won the game, 17-9, in the regular season finale.
Tri-County would throw a new pitcher each inning - Ryan Rifer, Wyatt Shabram, Jake Schroeder and A.J. Hobbs.
“We saw some good things from all four pitchers and were especially encouraged by the third and fourth pitchers' performances,” Coach Jeff Shabram said. “This will help bolster our pitching staff going into the area tournament. Pender is an exceptional baseball team, with a record of 22-6, and are hoping for a repeat state tournament appearance this year.”
Shabram noted the Pender squad has a lot of big hitters from top to bottom in its lineup.
“We played right with them for five innings, down 9-11, only to see the game get away from us in the final inning,” he said.
The Titans were also able to get the bats going with runners in scoring position. Schroeder scored the lone run in the second inning. Then, four Titan runs were scored in the third inning by Landon Nelson, Shabram, Rifer and Hobbs.
Tri-County would again score four runs in the fourth inning, with Riley Saul, Nelson, Shabram, and Rifer crossing home plate.
Ryan Rifer (two RBIs), Hobbs two RBIs), and Dane Miller (three RBIs), were clutch at the plate.
